Dominoes #21 REPEATED!

I really like Bertha Gray Hayes' miniature patterns in overshot.  They are amazing!!  I have done quite a few of them already, and it's my goal to do the whole book someday.  Back in June 2011, I already did the dominoes pattern with some potholders, but I wanted to see what it looked like with other yarn, maybe even a scarf.

I decided to break out my rainbow kool-aid dyed yarn.  What made me decide?  Working on the scarf for yoppie.  Mine was navajo plied, and it's much scratchier than the other yarn, so it's not quite the same.  And I'm doing an overshot pattern with it, but this was still inspired from that scarf!

My warp threads are 20/2 wool, which after getting to work with it, it's terrible stuff.   It breaks so easily because of how small it is!  I just have to learn to be even more gentle than ever before.  Cotton is so robust...

This is Bertha Gray Hayes Dominoes #21... Love it!  I love anything Bertha Gray Hayes!!  Her patterns are SOOOO awesome!  I have displayed this stuff on Ravelry and have sold quite a few copies of her book for her, because of all my work!  I wouldn't be surprised if this sold a few more copies...

Stats: 20/2 wool sett at 24 epi, 2 threads per dent on #12 reed.  Pattern weft: 3-ply yarn that smells delicious, like fruit.

Luck!!!

They're done!

These pinwheels look especially pretty with this special hand-spun yarn!

These scarves just weave up in a breeze compared to the bookmark project!!

 And now, off to Ohio...

...to be loved in the cold, bitter, frosty winter!!

My friend in Ohio was kind enough to share some of her hand-spun collection with me!

I am such a LUCKY weaver!!!!!

I don't mean to brag, and I hate when people brag around me, but I guess I just can't help my excitement!!!  Look what I have waiting for me:

I can't even decide which one to use first!!!  They are ALL calling to me, "Amanda!"
"Over here, Amanda!"
"Choose me!!!"
"Pick me!!!"
"I want to be next!!"
"Put ME on your loom!!!"
"AAAAAmandaaaaa!!!"

And I just love this yarn!!

Pinwheel scarf it is!

Remember this yarn?

And remember this scarf?

Remember how we had enough leftovers to make a second scarf?

Well, we've decided on a pattern for the 2nd scarf!

And it's pinwheels!!!

I love pinwheels!!!
In fact, the #1 reason why I wanted my 8-shaft loom was to weave pinwheels!!

Pinwheels of multi-colors...

  Pinwheels with zing...

And I guess I'm not the only one who loves pinwheels!

So I'm excited to get started on another set of pinwheels.  And I'm really excited to see what this yarn looks like all woven up into pinwheels!

2nd scarf options

Here are 10 draft ideas I had for the 2nd scarf.  They are in no particular order, some have pictures that correspond with the draft, some do not.  Imagine the pink as the rainbow brights variegated yarn!

Twills:
4-shaft and 8-shaft

The next two are from the new book, Simple Weaves that I reviewed before.

 Can't go wrong with pinwheels!

And of course, the original draft is another wonderful option!

More pics to enjoy!

I can't get enough of this scarf!

It seemed to weave up so fast, compared to the bookmark project!

It was a good recovery project.

Believe it or not, I do kind of miss the bookmarks.  They were such a rock of a project.  They kept me grounded.

As always, life goes on.

I wish I could wrap it around myself this winter, but it must go to Ohio!

Each section looks so different!

I love the blues!

I don't think it would have looked THIS stunning with any color other than black.  I'm glad we went with black!

Now, where to go with the next one... I already have some ideas brewing!

I want to lick this!

...because it looks like candy!  And it looks like it would taste good!

Some more good descriptors for this scarf: it's electric, it's like one of those little art projects from when you were a kid, the one that you would scratch the black waxy stuff off to draw a picture and this colorful stuff would be underneath...

This scarf is done!  It went WAY too fast, especially compared to the bookmarks!!!  And guess what?  I miscalculated our yarn amounts in our favor, so there is enough for ANOTHER scarf!!!  Can you believe that?!  I certainly couldn't, but I'm so super excited about being able to do another one!

Tarantula vs. Frog: Viewer Discretion Adviced

Last night I went outside to check out the moon and while I was out there I was checking out our tarantula friend we named Tortuga.  She has lived in our yard for 3 years now, at least, maybe more.  Every monsoon season she comes out, and every winter she buries herself in this hole.

Last night I noticed Tortuga and a small frog were both stuck in the tarantula hole and wiggling around like crazy. I poked at them both, they were alive and I wasn't sure what to think. I thought maybe a frog just got stuck and the tarantula butt was just hanging out there. I was worried they were suffocating.  Then I tried pulling on the little frog arm with my fingers because I wanted to "save" both of them.  Surely it was only by accident that this was happening!  The more I tugged and the more I dug, the more the frog was pulled into the hole. I guess it wasn't a struggle after all, but just a really large meal for a rainy day.

Then I ran and got the camera.

This was the first good pic I could get, I wish I could have gotten what I first saw!

Then, because I am a little sick and weird, I had to go back for more.  So about 20 minutes later, I captured this picture.  The frog obviously had relaxed more, and was slipping into a tarantula-induced coma.

After this pic was taken, Tortuga the tarantula whisked Fred the frog under the sidewalk into her secret hidden lair and that was the end of my free entertainment by nature.  She'll be drinking this frog smoothie and it will keep her going until at least January.

And then  I went inside and washed my hands because it was only then that I realized I did in fact touch the frog.  SICK!
